2020.11.27 04:23 JonnyBlaze2k Simple Things that blow my mind that Amazon refuses to fix or incorporate

Been on the Echo environment for a few years now, but I still can’t believe the simplest of things Amazon just refuses to add or fix. They’re are by far the most out of touch with their customer base.
1) TIMERS: why can’t I ask an echo in another room “how much time is left on timer?” Which I set on the kitchens echo? Always “no timers set” unless you ask the echo you set it on. This makes no sense to me. You also can’t cancel a timer. But once the timer is going off, it doesn’t seem to matter which echo you talk to, it will stop it if you ask it too. So this is deliberate on Amazon’s behalf.
2) ECHO CLOCK: this also revolves around timers and alarms etc. why does the echo clock only display the timer from one device? My clock is in my living room, but if I set a cooking timer in my kitchen I get nothing on the clock. — only if I set the timer in my living room. Simple Fix Amazon refuses to do.
3) why is it so complicated to do simple things like stop music from playing? I’ll be watching tv and The trigger word will be said, then it opens Apple Music and starts playing music. You’d think “stop music”, or “stop playing music” or even “turn off music” would stop it — nope. You have to specifically say “stop playing Apple Music”. Again, why complicate it? “Stop music” is stop music.
4) this brings me to their limited options for wake words since it’s inception. I have a daughter named “Alexa”, I also watch Star Trek a lot; and anyone that knows that show knows having “computer” as a wake word is a no-go. What’s left “echo”, “Amazon”? Both don’t sound native to speaking to something. It’s actually why I choose Amazon echos over Google home at first. “Hey Google” sounded so unnatural to start a sentence with. “Amazon, what’s the weather” or “echo what’s the weather” just sounds ridiculous to me. Why does Amazon refuse to add more wake words? This is something I’ve seen asked for for years by a huge number of users, or why not allow us to record our own wake word? It recognizes our voice and words already, so how complicated is it to allow us to record our own? but once again all this falls on deaf ears at Amazon.
5) finally, in regards to their screen equipped echos, like the spot and show. What’s the point of having a 8” screen when the clock is always only using 20% of it? Then of course Amazon refuses to allow anyone to turn off their “have your tried...” and other screens they force you to continually scroll through. Yes, I have disabled all the rotations and disabled the screens they allow me too, but it won’t just display what I want it too. I want a clock on the screen all night, so when I look at it, I see the time, not “hey, try saying ‘call mom’” or say X to see all the things you can ask me to do. Once again, a highly asked for thing to be able to do, yet Amazon refuses.
Some of these things may not apply to you, or maybe they just don’t bother you; but the question remains, what’s so hard about doing these things? Why does Amazon force stupid things on us we don’t want; why does Amazon refuse to make their products work together?
The “try saying...” screen I know why they won’t get rid of, it’s because they collect voices and responses from us and use it for their algorithms and probably other data collection purposes. I’ve turned off any and all sharing of my voice to Amazon. But why they won’t sync their products together is beyond me.
Anyways rant over. I think I sorta hear my kitchen echos timer going off; who knows, I can’t tell from any other echo in the house, or the app on my phone, or the app on my watch.

2020.11.27 03:40 projectfinewbie Fi newbie, what's the deal with LTE smart watches?

I'm confused as to which LTE smart watches I can use with project fi
I was disappointed that data sims can't be esims. I think this rules out a lot of smartwatch lines (galaxy, active, apple).
I'd like a 50m waterproof watch with apps like spotify and google fit ~ maybe ~ a camera although I know those aren't widely available
Do I need to add an additional project Fi line in order to make text/calls from the watch? Am I even able to make text/calls from a second watch?
Surprised it's this hard, feeling quite dumb for switching to fi and assuming that smartwatches would be easy to sort out... :) :(

2020.11.27 03:20 macieksoft Question about Drive Swapping and Parity Upgrading

I bought the 14tb WD easystore from BestBuy for black Friday and want to swap it with my current 8tb parity drive(since the 14tb will now be the largest). I also want to remove 2x 4tb from the server and put that data on the previous 8 tb parity drive. How would I go about doing this?
Remove 8tb Parity and make it a data drive -> somehow move the 2x 4tb's data to the 8tb -> remove 2x 4tb -> add the 14tb and rebuild parity? Thanks.

2020.11.27 03:11 KomradeNikolai Help using Excel VBA Add-Ins on multiple computers

I have several functions I've written contained in .xlam files. To keep them synced between a few computers, I have them saved to my OneDrive, but so Excel sees them in the same location (and the default location) on both PCs, I created a junction in %APPDATA%\Microsoft\AddIns.
After activating the add-ins in Excel, I can use all of the functions fine on both PCs, but if I create a formula on one PC, on the other, the same file adds a reference location to the function and it no longer works. For example, the formula:
=Interp(xdata,ydata,xpoint)
becomes:
='C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\AddIns'!Interp(xdata,ydata,xpoint)
on the other. The username is the same on the two PCs so that path is valid on both. Though if I had to use a path, I'd prefer to use one that relied on %APPDATA%.
Additionally, opening a workbook on the PC on which the formulas weren't created results in a prompt to update links. If I say yes, it gives me an error. If I say no, nothing happens, but my formulas also don't work.
Any pointers on getting Add-Ins to work on multiple computers?

They Talk about deploying zebranet in the future. Is this gonna be a separate distinct tangle besides the mainnet? And if so are other companies gonna do the same? u/hus_qy

Jeff Riseden
I'm not Hans, but I'll take a stab at answering this. The devs are currently coding for "NetworkID" capability, where nodes can choose to only recognize messages from the NetworkID listed in their config file. So "ZebraNet" could simply be a different NetworkID on the mainnet.

Hans Moog
This is correct. IOTA is planning to support layer2 scaling in the form of logically separated subnets with a distinct network ID. The activity in these sub tangles can be context specific and doesn't have to compete with the throughput on mainnet. The token supply will ...

Hans Moog
... however still be global and to transact value in these subnets, you will have to deposit funds in the subtangle first which will then disappear from the mainnet. We are planning to roll out this kind of 2nd layer scaling for data first but add support for transfers later.

Hans Moog
One additional comment: Being able to create context specific subnets (2nd layer scaling) does not mean that we are getting rid of "fluid sharding" (1st layer scaling). It's a complementary concept that can be used if it makes sense for the use case.

JD 📷Sutton
Do subnets use mainnet Iota’s or can they “create” their own such as with EC’s

Jeff Riseden
I believe there isn't any ability to "create" new tokens, just "colorize" them. So you would still make use of the existing fixed supply of global tokens across the mainnet. You can "create/colorize" tokens, but they will always pull from the total token supply.

Gman
Yes, that is my read as well. The pool never grows it is recycled.
IOTerry 📷
So, total iota supply remains fixed but mainnet supply will be reduced as these funds migrate to subnets? Correct? That's not only cool but bodes very well for anyone investing in Iotatokens.

Hans Moog
Exactly. For your Kupcrush use case it would also make a lot of sense to have a separate subnet so all the involved nodes only need to process Kupcrush transaction and nothing else. Having a separate subnet of course only makes sense if the use case is "big enough".

Introducing Zebra Savanna and the IOTA Track and Trace Ledger API
A new API combines barcodes/RFID technology with blockchain - easy and low-cost (testing is no-cost)
This blog introduces Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) and how it can be combined with RFID or scanning to build a new generation of decentralised supply chain applications. Those applications allow to securely share trusted and immutable data among multiple stakeholders. For this purpose, Zebra Savanna now offers publicly the IOTA Track&Trace Ledger REST API, allowing developers to build and test novel track and trace solutions.
IOTA is an open source DLT that enables sharing of any type of data (particularly IoT data) guaranteeing traceability of their source, alongside with integrity and immutability of the shared information, and dedicated access management, e.g., who can read what.
IOTA also incorporates 2nd Layer ledger protocols, such as IOTA Streams. This protocol automatically organizes the data on the Ledger making it extremely simple to establish Digital Twins, for example to connect all data regarding shipment movement from end-to-end in a supply chain.
Automatic Identification and Data Capture Technologies (AIDC), such as RFID or barcodes, combined with DLT technologies, such as IOTA, can be enablers of a new generation of decentralized applications**. The final aim is to utilize directly or indirectly captured information through AIDC to build a digital representation (Digital Twin) of physical items and their context (location, ownership, etc.).**
Such Digital Twin representation can be published on a DLT, a secure, decentralised and trusted database that preserves integrity and acts as the single source of truth. Therefore, the DLT actually allows multiple stakeholders to share data in real time across the supply chain (on a B2B or B2C scenario). With trusted data (which cannot be manipulated and each actor is accountable for any data shared) and the ability to control access permissions (who can read/write) a number of new business models are enabled: i) ii) iii) Secure supply chains - fight counterfeit products to enter supply chains, etc.
In the future Zebra Technologies and IOTA Foundation will deploy Zebranet**, a dedicated IOTA DLT network for Zebra customers.**
API Roadmap
The Track and Trace Ledger API (sandbox version) opens up a new world of business opportunities and applications thanks to the combination of IOTA and RFID or barcodes. IOTA Foundation and Zebra technologies intend to continue working on improving and polishing the API by making it enterprise-ready and available on ZebraNet, a IOTA network specifically devoted to Zebra Savanna developers.
Last but not least, the upcoming new features and approach of IOTA Chrysalis Phase 2 will bring considerable improvements in how the information is managed and stored, making the system more efficient, performant and scalable.
Conclusions
The combination of RFID and scanning technologies with DLT opens up a new world of novel, decentralised supply chain applications, enabling secure, trusted and immutable data exchange. Zebra and IOTA Foundation are facilitating developers to build and test those applications through simple but yet powerful REST APIs directly connected to the IOTA Tangle DLT.

Mana serves as Sybil protection in #coordicide of u/iotatoken**. The autopeering simulator is an excellent tool to illustrate one aspect of** #mana. In the following, we assume 200 honest nodes with mana distributed according to a Zipf law with parameter s=1.
The lighter the blue, the more mana a node has. Nodes of similar mana should peer together. The orange node is a malicious node owning 10% of the total mana.
Now, the orange attacker tries a Sybil attack and splits its mana into 100 nodes. The high mana nodes are well protected from the malicious nodes, and even the small mana nodes are not eclipsed.
The following is the result with the attacker splitting into 200 nodes; they almost find no honest node to peer with.

We are proud to announce that the IOTA Foundation is joining the new Christian Doppler Laboratory Blockchain Technologies for the Internet…
Can highly recommend everyone to read our announcement on this
TL;DR, A research laboratory with one of the leading technical universities in Europe, supported by the Federal Ministry of Austria, with industry partners Pantos (Bitpanda) and IOTA Foundation. What we will focus on is a broader range of research topics related to IoT and DLT, in particular around interoperability, cross-chain asset transfers and new business models (specifically around finance) for IoT.

dom어제 오후 8:18
It's a very exciting step for us as the IOTA Foundation to work with those research partners on these exciting challenges. This will specifically have an impact on our development of Smart Contracts (ISCP) and the TU Vienna Team is also getting more involved in the overall Coordicide validation.

dom어제 오후 8:19
u/Tobias With the progress on ISCP, I hope that together with Pantos and the TU Vienna, that we can showcase the first cross-chain asset transfers by early Q2 next year. Might be earlier, but a lot of it depends on our progress with smart contracts obviously.

[Is the research more focused on the tangle as the base layer or also other DLT's?]
It is focused on the IOTA Tangle as one of the key technologies for IoT, but since the objective is to work on the interoperability with other DLT's, it will also involve work with other base protocols.

The IF sells tokens every month to pay salaries. The dip was not caused by the IF selling tokens, the whole market dipped.
The funds were moved to a third party who is responsible for liquidating the tokens. They do not get liquidated in one go. It is performed in a way to have as little effect on the token price as possible.

2020.11.27 02:06 CucumberFit4674 Protocol to reduce coughing/ gagging during feeding therapy (tongue tapping)

If you can stop the gags and coughs, then you can stop the emesis. I have found that on average it takes between 3-4 gags, coughs, or combinations thereof, for emesis to occur.
Materials: pureed food, spoon, gloves, blocker (as needed), high chair or Rifton Activity Chair (or similar)
Procedure: Use your normally set escape extinction based protocol which extinction for cough and gags.
Make sure to add in a mouth clean component to your protocol that utilizes an inverted spoon. After a bite is deposited, wait a second or two, then invert spoon, put near mouth, and say, "show me ahh." If size of food is size of pea or less, give brief verbal praise, then move to next trial.
At each instance of cough or gag, instantaneously: 1. lightly tap using tip of your index finger on the participant's tongue ----> about one fifth of the way up from the tip of the tongue. The tap should last no more than 10-15 milliseconds [quicker is better]. 2. present inverted spoon and say, "show me ahh" as quickly as possible after the finger depresses the tongue. 3. present quick duration reinforcer if there is a mouth clean (less than size of pea in mouth) then quickly move to the next bite ... verbal praise works best i.e . "good job swallowing" 4. move to next trial (bite presentation) 5. if emesis occurs keep bite to top lip until emesis ceases and deposit bite close to bout termination. Clean up as necessary after a few more bites. Don't clean if unnecessary.

I have had great success at eliminating or significantly decreasing the rate and volume of emesis using the above procedure.

The finger touching the tongue is a CS -----> the CS becomes paired with the initiation of the gag. -----> the inverted spoon is previously paired with swallows during the previously paired mouth cleans ------> the elicited swallow is then paired with the reinforcer.
The adding of extra CS of finger touching the tongue helps promote extinction of gagging and vomiting. As such, tongue tapping alone(*) without inverted spoon and/ or mouth clean prompt, is also significantly effective at reducing [if not eliminating] emesis as compared as with utilizing the additional mouth clean associated stimuli [inverted spoon and "show me ahh"].
*After finger applied to tongue, deposit bite as quickly as possible after moment gag is terminated and before next the initiation of the next gag or cough. --- This can be tricky. The first option [inverted spoon] is much easier to implement for the unseasoned feeder.

This protocol is currently being used at some of the bigger feeding programs. Although a lot of data demonstrating efficacy has already been collected by multiple institutions, nothing has yet been published.

This post is for educational purposes only. Only a EXPERIENCED feeder should implement any feeding protocol. Always make sure get medical clearance before attempting feeding therapy. I have 12+ years of exclusively implementing feeding protocols.

This is….HUGE…Honestly, I have never seen a tweak to combine SO many features into ONE, the developer has indeed worked extremely hard to have these TONS of features solidly into this tweak.
PRICE, the BIG question…the price is to be announced, but I am curious, for such a tweak what do you think the price should be? Add it in your comments.
Serious Beta testers might be needed, you can DM if you're interested..

2020.11.27 01:23 ImAMokepon Implementing card Effects With Scriptable Objects?

I am currently trying to build the base architecture for a card game and i am having problems implementing card effects. I have been looking for solutions to my problem but none of them did the trick for me.
I implemented my cards using scriptable objects that store data like their cost, name, sprite, etc. The cards get stored in seperate lists for the players hand and deck, i display them through a CardDisplayer Prefab that reads the stored data.
Everything is working fine for now, but i dont understand how to implement effects, since i cant just add them to the scriptable objects. I tried to create a base class for effects and creating a seperate script for each effect that overrides specific methods like an Apply method that would get called on activation, but when adding an Effect field to my scriptable object, i cannot add it through the inspector.
I have seen that this: https://heavens-vault-game.tumblr.com/post/162127808290/inline-scriptableobject-editing-in-unity
got posted as a responsive to this kind of problem, but i honestly dont understand how it helps or how i even implement it into my project.
Right now, my last idea would be to ditch scriptable objects in favor of one base class for cards (maybe as an interface?). I could create a script for each card that derives from the base. I have not tried that yet, because i thought scriptable objects were designed for tasks like this.

2020.11.27 01:14 ConstantINeSane Obligations legal or not for web applications

I created a web app as a side project ( still learning ) and right now it has almost 100 active users ( mostly people willing to test it and help me fix bugs ). Now i am wondering what obligations i have to them or the law before i start letting people know about my project.
The app is an activity tracker users sign in and i collect distance duration and heart rate data and their age. No location or other data. Also the app is free i am planning maybe to add some ads later who knows.
I am not asking for legal advice just some guidance.
For example i am liable for any database leak by potential hackers? Should i provide some term of services or something on sign up? Would adding ads create issues with coockies or something? Or any other potential issue you have faced on your web dev journey!

Why Sinnoh Remakes Would Be the Worst Thing that Happened to Pokémon Since the Great Yiffening of '02

Part Two: HeDidTheMath

HeDidTheMonsterMath !
TheMonsterMath !
ItWasAGraveyardGraph !
Now, as you know, Generation 4 is the gen where GameFreak got lazy. And, we know why Gen 4 remakes would be the worst, with the following proof.
"4" is the generation number.
"2" is for the "second" time Gen 4 has appeared.
Now, what is the data width of an anti-piracy chip? That's right: 4.
And the highest 4-bit number is? 16.
Converted to hex? 10.
Multiply 4 by 10: 40
Add 2: 42
Translate to Lojban: vore
THEREFORE: SINNOH REMAKES WOULD BE THE WORST THING THAT HAPPENED TO POKéMON SINCE THE GREAT YIFFENING OF '02!

End of part 2

To be continued...

2020.11.27 00:33 nommanom PSU Question: 1000W EVGA GQ vs 850W Corsair RMX+ Gold

Hi,
I recently purchased an 850W Corsair RMX+ Gold and was lucky enough to be given a 1000W EVGA GQ for free. Was wondering which would be best for my system, looking to add to my build which will be primarily used for gaming, photo editing, and work (data analysis).
CPU: Ryzen 5900X
GPU: TBD (GTX 970 placeholder)
I'm also looking to build a NAS/Steam Machine with my old parts and 2 14TB harddrives so was wondering if I should be using one of these in that system as well or look to use a smaller PSU (I have an old 750W Gold+ about 7 years)

2020.11.27 00:21 puzzle-game NamedFieldPuns, RecordWildCards, and empty bracket record syntax

I guess, what's the difference in use-cases between these three? Here are examples of all three I'm looking at: https://imgur.com/yKI2X5W and I'm not quite clear on the explanation.
What do these actually do and when would you use them?
From what I understand,

data Triangle = Triangle {side1 :: Int, side2 :: Int, side3 :: Int} triFn :: Triangle -> Int triFn Triangle {side1 = s1, side2 = s2, side3 = s3} = s1 + s2 + s3
you can "clean up" the function declaration by doing
triFn2 :: Triangle -> Int triFn2 Triangle {side1, side2, side3} = side1 + side2 + side3
instead.

triFn3 :: Triangle -> Int triFn3 Triangle { .. } = side1 + side2 + side3
you're allowing yourself to use side1, side2....and any field without having to declare it. I guess this just makes your code more flexible in that sense? Or what's the use-case for this?
Is this all pretty much correct? Anything to add that I might be missing? Thank you!

2020.11.27 00:00 GhostXW01F Changing tutorial SF4 island to normal mode

I made the mistake of making a tutorial world for the first time not realizing I wouldn't be able to get a prestige point from the first advancements page. Couldn't find a solution so I found one myself, maybe it will help someone.
In the directory of your save, go into the playerdata folder, then the gamestages folder. This contains some kind of data that prevents the normal mode advancements page to showing so deleting it will fix it. If you manage a server then you can delete the file with the UUID of the player needing to be fixed, otherwise if you're in single-player it should only be one file to delete. After deleting the file, go back to the root of your save, then into the advancements folder. Open the .json of the player, and add the lines:
"sf4:age1/root": {
"criteria": {
"non_tutorial_start": "2020-11-23 16:19:51 -0500"
},
"done": true
},
This can be added after the first curly brace at the top. This allows progress for normal mode because without it, you wouldn't have the root advancement. After these steps you can restart the server and it should fix it to be normal mode. This does allow the prestige point for the first page.
First post so sorry if formatting is incorrect, hope this helps someone.

2020.11.26 23:57 0toHeroInvesting Is over diversification bad? Are less stocks more profitable? Starting a new portfolio

In this post I am going to share my experience as I start a new portfolio from 0$ and keep adding funds to it every month as I try to grow it as fast as possible
Hey everyone Happy Thanksgiving and Welcome! So, I have deposited and invested in the stock market all the money I managed to save up in the last month as I deposited 3500$ in my eToro portfolio on the 12th of November and I am already up more than 7% in just two weeks.
As my portfolio has constantly outperform the big 3 indexes the Nasdaq100, the SP500 and the Dow Jones 30 almost every day since starting my portfolio. Here is a comparison of my portfolio vs the indexes since starting as I am up over 7%. Portfolio v Index
So i wondered? Is it really bad to own more stocks? Is less > more? What is your opinion on this subject? I believe that it is way better to be invested in more companies and to add and grow your position in time as you also see how the companies evolve and you can also do some price averaging.
So here is my current portfolio composition as I split all my money equally to start, I will go into very few little details about everyone so I don’t make this a 2 hour read time.
I will start now by going alphabetically and not in the most important order as the first company that I own is BYD which is a rival company for both Tesla and NIO in the EV market as they focus on cars, new energy solutions and electronics. They are also developing a lot of commercial EV like buses, coaches and taxis which will be a great addressable market for them as they are not rivaled in those segments at the moment. The company has gone up a lot in value this year as you can see in this graph and have a Forward P/E of more than 100 but I believe this company will greatly expand its sales and be one of the leaders in the segment especially in China which is the biggest EV market. https://ibb.co/gVVwpfR / https://ibb.co/z7YBGr9
The second holding is Apple, is there anybody that doesn’t know this company? They are the biggest company in the world and they continue to expand with new products and services every day, I don’t see this company going down in the short term or the long term as they have pretty expensive at a 35 P/E but earnings are still rising especially with more subscription based income coming in with the release of the Apple One Bundle. https://ibb.co/Tm3hWMZ / https://ibb.co/Q9YjJTx / https://ibb.co/BrzkHCY
AbbVie is a health company that produces a lot of great drugs and has more than 26 million patients in over 200 countries that are treated every year. They are one of the best companies in the sector and are still down about 25% from the all time highs while only trading at a forward P/E of 8 which is very low. https://ibb.co/9nn4z0q / https://ibb.co/mXh3JL5 / https://ibb.co/cwhJgB5
AMD is a well established companies that creates high performance GPU’s for both personal computer and for data centers, the company has turned around and have started a great path to success since the newest CEO took the job in 2014 as the stock was trading at 2$ and while the company is trading at a very high forward P/E they have a lot of room to grow in this new economy as the EPS is expected to increase by more than 40% quarter over quarter https://ibb.co/dpwYPcy / https://ibb.co/7vwWHtC / https://ibb.co/yF0RmQv
Amazon is the internet retail juggernaut and cloud servicing company that has also started to expand in more and more domains like pharmacy just last week, though the company is also trading at a very high PE they have a lot of room to grow internationally and also are expanding in a lot more domains at a very fast rate. https://ibb.co/4TnGhkt / https://ibb.co/c6W2Ypx
Aphria is a Canadian company that mainly grows cannabis for medical use but has recently acquired a beverage company and is look to expand its product line, especially with the legalizing of marijuana more and more obvious in the US. They are one of the companies that stands to benefit the most from this as they are also expected to be the first to reach profitability by next year compared to Aurrora Canabis and Cannopy Growth. https://ibb.co/KrfL267 / https://ibb.co/kJ8yxDR
Broadcom is one of the biggest American semiconductor solutions provider, they are a very good play for the sector as they only trade at a forwarde P/E of 17 which is very good compared to comptetitors. https://ibb.co/8KFmX88 / https://ibb.co/q18SzPb
Everyone also knows Boeing as they are one of the biggest commercial manufacturers of jetliners, defence, space and security systems. The have suffered a lot in the last 2 years after the 737 accidents and the recent stay-at-home economy, but the ban on the plain has been lifted in the US and will be followed by the European Union soon, they have a big backlog of planes to work through while this situation will improve and air travel returns slowly in the next years. https://ibb.co/JxZYZ6D / https://ibb.co/NVbhDLQ
Alibaba is a online e-commerce giant that has expanded into cloud computing services also and stands to benefit a lot from the stay-at-home economy while also having just a forward PE of 32 which is very low compared to Amazon as they are the Chinese version of them. The company also owns Ant Group which is one of the largest fin tech companies in the world and will likely gain a lot after they finally manage to go public. https://ibb.co/0JPN6DN / https://ibb.co/6NgjGNV /
Berkshire is the child company of Warren Buffet as they are a holding company that engages in diversified business like technology, banks, insurance and much more. The company is currently trading at a very low P/E an barely above the price/book value as even the founders of the company believe this as they have continued to buy back shares of the company in the last year at the fastest rate in company history. https://ibb.co/bP6VjpM / https://ibb.co/hf5hX39
Caterpillar is one of best companies in manufacturing, construction and mining equipment. They are trading at almost 3 time sales with a high P/E but this is likely to regain momentum with the China trade war relaxing with the new Biden administration as well as the reopening of the economy https://ibb.co/pnC17PM / https://ibb.co/2vsQSjt
Chipotle Mexican is one of the best companies right now in the fast food business as they continue to innovate and have just opened they’re first digital only store. The company is trading at a very high P/E but has substantial growth potential so I believe it will be a great buy for the future. https://ibb.co/GCqd3Y9 / https://ibb.co/JnBm3bx
Costco is one of the world biggest retailers that has a great business model as they are making most of they’re money through membership fees unlike other retailers that mostly rely on prices, the are trading at just 1 times sales which is very good and they have a lot of room to grow especially with improve China relationships. https://ibb.co/X4M76Vd / https://ibb.co/ypg3Gyc
Crowdstrike is a cyber security company that has seen a huge spike due to the transition to more and more digital presence for all the companies. They are a company that I believe is here to stay and just started to become profitable in the last quarter. https://ibb.co/zNbfhL9 / https://ibb.co/mBw2TKj
Carvana is one of the best players for the second hand car market as they operate a unique e-commerce platform for people to buy, sell or finance cars. They are one of my favorite companies as they are also just starting to make money as they continue to expand they’re presence. https://ibb.co/QPZ1wnt / https://ibb.co/0rS6LrQ
CVS is a health and pharmacy companies that owns the most pharma stores in the US, the company has been hit recently by the news that Amazon is getting into pharmacy delivery but I believe they will be a great play for the vaccine distribution play as the company is only trading at a forward P/E of 8 and is trading below value of sales while also offering a dividend of 2% https://ibb.co/KNH6v5G / https://ibb.co/8Ps3QRB
Delta is one of the major airlines in the US and as I wanted to be exposed to some recovery plays I choose this company as I believe air travel will come back in the next years. The financials are not great for the company but they did manage to cut the cash burn rate in the last quarter. https://ibb.co/gyrSYYb / https://ibb.co/KsNbFHg
Deere is another great industrial and manufacturing play for the recovery stocks. The company is trading at a pretty high P/E ratio for them as the stock has runed very high in the last months but they do offer a dividend of 1% which is much better than any bank savings account and also have the potential for growth and also are a pretty reliable way to diversify portfolios. https://ibb.co/NSsCGN1 / https://ibb.co/thrY6W2
Disney is a very diversified family friend entertainment and media company as they have a lot of great business that will benefit a lot from the re-opening while this contributed a lot to the huge expansion of the streaming business with Disney+ and Hulu so the financials are not great but I believe this will hugely improve in the next couple of years. https://ibb.co/BG0jctn / https://ibb.co/7GR9h3c
Draftkings is an American daily fantasy sport operator that has expanded into the huge market of online gambling as more and more us states are legalizing gambling so they have a lot of room to grow in front of them especially with a great online presence with financials not being very important at the moment as they continue to grow they’re presence https://ibb.co/k8dtJmM / https://ibb.co/HgGQvG2
Dominos Pizza is one of the biggest pizza companies in the world and are also one of the best in implementing they’re presence in the delivery services as they are way better at this than others companies like Papa John’s. https://ibb.co/NZXkQjg / https://ibb.co/FVGXXBY
Etsy is a e-commerce platform for creative goods and services and has seen a huge rise in popularity and will probably remain a big gainer from this past year, though they are trading at over 70times earnings this will likely improve very much in the next years as they are expected to expand and improve earnings substantaly. https://ibb.co/5MN9zb7 / https://ibb.co/PYz0NWK
Ford is one of the biggest car makers in the world, I really like this company as it having a big push to move to the EV world with the Mustang Mach E, the EV Transit and the hugely anticipated EV F-150, the company is expected to have huge improvements in the next year as they have decent financials and are one of the best companies to own for a dividend investing strategy. https://ibb.co/MhwMB47 / https://ibb.co/745w8vq
Facebook is the largest social media network in the world that also owns Instagram, they have been struggling in the last months due to the political environment but I believe they will continue to be a giant in the tech sector as they are finding new ways to improve revenue streams especially in the highly active Instagram platform as they are trading at pretty much the same P/E like the other big tech companies but are expected to see a growth in advertising money as companies move to a more digital presence. https://ibb.co/SVjFGvc / https://ibb.co/T1Ds8V8

As I want to be diversified and exposed to recovery play I also picked the cruise line that I think will do best in the long run. So though Norwegian have diluted they’re shares a lot during this year, I belive not all cruise lines will survive and they will eat up market share when everything goes back to normal. So I don’t really care about the financials that much at the moment as this is a very long term pick. https://ibb.co/tHDcrMY / https://ibb.co/PTqK0dj
Next Era Energy is the largest electric utility by market cap and has the world largest generator of renewable energy from wind and sun and stand to benefit a lot from a Biden administration that is why they are trading at such high multiples at the moment. I also bought NetFlix as I believe them, Disney and Roku will be some of the largest players in the streaming business as traditional TV and cinema are a dying business at the moment. The company is trading at a premium but this is due to them dumping money in high quality content to grow they’re subscriber base while they also have steadily increase subscriptions cost in the last years. I believe they will do better next quarter and will see a re-test of all time highs. https://ibb.co/VN2TF6f / https://ibb.co/B6j9zTn
I also own NIO more as a spec play to be well diversified in the EV world, I believe this is a long term investment as the stock price has gone up like bananas recently, the company will have to have perfect growth in the next couple of years to justify an increase in value as they are still losing money. https://ibb.co/MZ2NL4v / https://ibb.co/mt8f3ZR

Palantir is a highly controversial name right now but its products and services are really good as they are earning more and more stamps of approval with government contracts while also expanding to commercial use. PayPal is another great company that will do very well in the future as payments transition to a more digital approach and the company is transitioning to allow cryptocurrencies as well which will attract even more users. AT&T is one of the largest providers in the us and seems to be getting back on track after they have struggled in the past decade, they trade at only 8 times forward P/E and have one of the best dividend yields at more than 7% so I believe this is a must have staple in your portfolio that brings stability and cash flow. https://ibb.co/cYcfYMm / https://ibb.co/8D3NzZr
While Target has been doing some amazing things as they operate as a general merchandise retailers and are doing some amazing things with online sales, they currently have seen a spike in the last months and are trading at a p/e of over 22 but I see them as a long term winner that offers both growth and value with a dividend yield of 1,5%. https://ibb.co/Fzd8TMw / https://ibb.co/NLnw4Lv
While the other communication provider that I like is T-Mobile US which has seen a huge spike in user growth and are poised to do a lot of great things with the 5G cycle, they trade at a very high multiple for this sector but the growth expectations are huge for this company. https://ibb.co/PCDFD38 / https://ibb.co/BTSzTMp
Moving on, one of the biggest gainers this year, TESLA is also one of my favorite companies to own as they continue to expand the products they offer and improve margins on vehicle, they are also expanding into more and more services, while manufacturing is growing exponentialy. They trade at insane P/E’s but they have just managed to be included in the SP500 so this may bring some stability to the stock as the company continues to grow in the next decade.https://ibb.co/6rNJf6q / https://ibb.co/CWN6wD4

Zoom is the one company that I will be selling in the next couple of days. I know they are one of the best video conferencing apps out there, but I believe they will have a lot of problem due to a number of free apps that also offer great quality while the company is trading at insane p/e numbers. I know this trend is here to stay, but I thing there are far better play in the stock market out there rather than Zoom at this price point. https://ibb.co/T1tStb8 / https://ibb.co/rmxh0x3
I know I didn’t get into in-depth stuff, technical analysis, fundamentals and more but I will continue go more in depth with this stocks as time goes on.
So here how I want to make my portfolio look like when I have enough money to open all the positions. TARGETED PORTFOLIo
As you can see a quarter of my portfolio will be invested in high quality companies that are pretty safe in my opinion. While over 45% of the portfolio will go to companies that I really like, that have a pretty low risk in my opinion and can offer great returns in the future. While I will also use about 22% of my portfolio into more risky companies that can bring very good profits for the portfolio but in my opinion are not as safe as the others.
And finally I will invest about 7% of my portfolio into more speculative stocks or hedge stocks like Barrick Gold and Goldman Sachs. I don’t want to keep money on the sidelines at the moment as I expect the stock market will keep rising for a couple of years at a rapid pace due to the recovery of the economy.

2020.11.26 23:56 0toHeroInvesting Is over diversification bad?

The company also has an impressive yield of almost 2% https://ibb.co/xjYVMx4 / https://ibb.co/q9hjp48
Nike is my favorite apparel play as I believe it is the most desired my a lot of people and keeps expanding. I really like how the company is managed and I believe in them for the long-run. https://ibb.co/jw1zjgj / https://ibb.co/RYR4QSP

I also like owning Pepsico alongside Coca Cola as they are the two biggest players in the sector and I believe that they will both benefit a lot in the next years from the economy recovery. With pepsico offering a 2,7% dividend and a great growth path I really like owning this stock https://ibb.co/2SY4xPY / https://ibb.co/Sdt2hGC
Pinterest is an up and coming social media platform that has a great ad friendly setup and could see growth in the next years. They are trading at insane PE ratios but that should catch up to the company in the future and I believe you must own it to be well diversified. https://ibb.co/gwGFbyb / https://ibb.co/5TYz4KS
Palantir is a highly controversial name right now but its products and services are really good as they are earning more and more stamps of approval with government contracts while also expanding to commercial use. Financial info is not that good as the company barely reported they’re first earnings after the IPO. https://ibb.co/fdQ42gc / https://ibb.co/wyTJSG2
PayPal is another great company that will do very well in the future as payments transition to a more digital approach and the company is transitioning to allow cryptocurrencies as well which will attract even more users. They have had a greet increase in revenue and eps in the last quarters and I expect that to continue to grow. https://ibb.co/9tXxhJZ / https://ibb.co/M5vCynn
Qualcomm is my favorite 5G play alongside apple as this will be a long cycle of upgrades for the communications services that will benefit them a lot. They are trading at an PE of over 30 but have great revenue and EPS growth while also offering an almost 2% dividend yield. https://ibb.co/NFsnKqW / https://ibb.co/x5sJLW6

Everyone also knows Starbucks, as I expect them to be a huge gainer on a improved US-China relationship so despite suffering a lot from this economy the stock is still up more than 16% in the last year while revenues have declined, expect this to bounce back by 2021-2022. https://ibb.co/s5nTzQX / https://ibb.co/fDyhvX3
Shopify is a multinational e-commerce cloud based platform for merchants like small and medium sized business so that can easily have an online store that they can manage payments for, orders inventory and much more.
Visa is the biggest global payments technology company and is expected to continue to grow as more people start using cashless payment options, they are a great growth and value company for the future as cash payments is a dying proposition worldwide. https://ibb.co/CVXgZD9 / https://ibb.co/BPKxFfZ

So if you are a long term investor you should get into this stock I believe. https://ibb.co/6rk2qNQ / https://ibb.co/mC35VPr

They are still more than 8$ under the highs and are a great diversification and yield giving stock to own. https://ibb.co/XzBY41g / https://ibb.co/TrGRZpR
Visa is the biggest global payments technology company and is expected to continue to grow as more people start using cashless payment options, they are a great growth and value company for the future as cash payments is a dying proposition worldwide. https://ibb.co/CVXgZD9 / https://ibb.co/BPKxFfZ
Wal-Mart, the biggest employer in the US continues to do amazing stuff as they continue to expand they’re online presence and compete with Amazon as they trade at a 23 P/E and also offer a dividend yield. they are a great play alongside with Amazon which trades at much higher valuations. https://ibb.co/Sr9s83J / https://ibb.co/0CvZKkD
Wynn is another great recovery stock that I like as recently we found out that foot traffic in Macau has ramped up, this bolds well for the company as they will be one of the biggest gainers on the reopening. So if you are a long term investor you should get into this stock I believe. https://ibb.co/6rk2qNQ / https://ibb.co/mC35VPr

2020.11.26 23:32 Termanater13 Widget update function help

I'm looking for some help understanding the update function for widgets.
The reason for this I was looking for a way to have an icon-only task list and the function I found seems to not do much other than output the icons. the code below was found on StackOverflow.
function myUpdate(w, buttons, label, data, objects) w:reset() local l = wibox.layout.fixed.horizontal() for i, o in ipairs(objects) do local cache = data[o] if cache then ib = cache.ib else ib = wibox.widget.imagebox() ib:buttons(common.create_buttons(buttons, o)) data[o] = { ib = ib } end local text, bg, bg_image, icon = label(o) ib:set_image(icon) l:add(ib) --w:add(ib) end w:add(l) end
I found similar code in the material-awsome config but it does a lot more than the above code.
